Ingrid Valou
Manager, Communications & Media Relations
Ingrid’s role has everything to do with the written word at the Vancouver Economic Commission. As such, she helps develop most of VEC’s published content, frequently holding the pen to help shape its voice, content and story. She thrives at VEC, where her curiosity about intersectionally inclusive economic models, industrial businesses, journalism, and sustainable, purpose-driven businesses has fertile ground to deepen and grow.
Ingrid joined the organization in 2016 as its communications specialist, leading day-to-day communications, public relations and media initiatives. As of mid-2020, she serves VEC’s editorial team as the lead writer and editor of most of its signature reports, including the thrice-annual regular Vancouver Economy Report.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and double-majored in anthropology and creative writing. She also holds a certificate in public relations from Simon Fraser University. Throughout her career, she has delivered award-winning communications and marketing campaigns recognized by the Canadian Public Relations Society and STORYHIVE.
Ingrid has been president of the Vancouver Metal Arts Association since 2019, and has been active on other arts and culture boards over the years. She also runs an eponymous small-scale handmade jewellery studio and custom design brand out of her Chinatown studio. Her modest goldsmithing practice is a creative lab devoted to the responsible jewellery movement, and through which she explores, develops, and collates resources for local jewellery artists.
