New Martini Film Studios Development to Increase Greater Vancouver’s Film Capacity by as much as 15 percent

Martini Film Studios Teases 600,000 sq ft New Film Studio Development in Langley, B.C.

Martini Film Studios today announced a new studio development that could raise Greater Vancouver’s film capacity by as much as 15 percent. The new facility will feature over 600,000 square feet of purpose-built soundstages, offices and production support buildings built across more than 25 acres in Langley, 40 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver is home to approximately two million square feet of film-ready soundstage space, and the Martini Film Studios’ new campus will dedicate at least 300,000 square feet to soundstages, representing a significant infusion of new film stock. The development is currently undergoing design and planning based on industry and client consultation.

“We’ve enjoyed phenomenal support from our industry partners and the entertainment community since launching Martini Film Studios. It’s been an incredible experience,” says Gemma Martini, Founder & CEO of Martini Film Studios. “Space is in huge demand, and with the industry thriving and the growth potential for the film and television business across all of B.C., we’re proud to expand our services for the sector.”

This announcement marks the region’s first major studio development since Martini Film Studios first opened the doors to its 250,000 square feet of combined studio facilities two years ago. Upon the completion of this new campus, Martini Film Studios will more than triple its current capacity and become the largest provider of film studio facilities in the Lower Mainland.

“Vancouver is one of the world’s top film hubs, and continues to be a great draw for the international production community,” says David Shepheard, Director of the Vancouver Film Commission at the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC). “It attracts billions of dollars of investment every year, and creates thousands of diverse jobs for the local community. Facilities such as Martini Film Studios help boost that reputation, and this new, state-of-the-art studio expansion is a much-needed addition to local production infrastructure.”

According to VEC research, the film industry added $3.8 billion to the local economy in 2018. The same research finds that the industry has added $18.7 billion to the local economy since 2012, including $10.2 billion in wages paid directly to British Columbians.

“The Martini investment into stage expansion comes at a critical time — the Vancouver industry has never felt busier, or more crowded,” says Justis Greene, a local producer whose credits include Another LifeThe Order, and TRON: LEGACY. “Although producers are practiced at stowing productions in unusual crannies, and at converting underused space, feature projects and series are known to make decisions hinging on whether there are suitable soundstages available to facilitate their show. If you don’t have the factory, you won’t get the product.”

Since its opening, Martini Film Studios has enjoyed close partnerships with Netflix and MBS Equipment Company. Current productions filming at Martini Film Studios include Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Warner Bros./Netflix), Another Life (Netflix), and Snowpiercer (TBS).
