The Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) is the agency responsible for economic development for the City of Vancouver. The VEC works to position Vancouver as a globally recognised city for innovative, creative and sustainable business. The Digital Entertainment and Interactive sector (including film & television) is an important focus area for the VEC and its strategic approach to developing the local economy. This economic sector continues to experience significant growth and Vancouver is uniquely qualified to exploit its competitive advantages as a major and comprehensive film industry hub. With this economic opportunity in mind, a new role of Vancouver Film Commissioner is being created to ensure that Vancouver strengthens its leadership position and secures more industry growth in the future.

Reporting to the CEO of the VEC, the successful candidate will be responsible for executing the marketing, advocacy and investment attraction objectives of the VEC. By leveraging your network locally and in other production hubs such as Los Angeles, London and Shanghai, you will attract film and TV production, co-production and post-production projects to Vancouver to further reinforce Vancouver’s position as a global leader in the industry. Your work in this arena will accrue many benefits to the local ecosystem including local employment, infrastructure investment, innovation and raising the profile of Vancouver on a global stage for decades to come.
As the ideal candidate, you are a visionary leader with an ability to take what is already one of the world’s strongest full-cycle production locations and identify opportunities the industry can leverage to build upon its success. Your deep understanding of the industry and the people and processes that make it work has been gained by at least 10 years of direct experience in the sector. You have a passion for greater Vancouver and you are actively aligned with the City and the VEC’s values of being innovative, creative and sustainable.
