See You at GLOBE Forum 2022: Vancouver Economic Commission Event Roundup

Each year, innovators, corporations, government leaders, NGOs, international agencies and the finance community convene at GLOBE Forum 2022 to learn, invest, find solutions and seek inspiration to do business better

This year, attendees will converge in Vancouver to collaborate, deliberate and chart a course towards a net-zero future – a necessity outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to limit global warming.

We’re excited to attend this year’s GLOBE Forum 2022 (March 29-31) and meet with the sustainability and climate community for the first time since before the pandemic. We’re excited to meet with you, too, which is why anyone who wants to purchase a GLOBE Forum 2022 ticket can use our promo code (VECGF22) and receive a 10 percent discount.

The transition to a low-carbon economy is quickly gaining momentum. Across the world, 136 countries – representing nearly 90 percent of global GDP and greenhouse gas emissions – have committed to reaching net-zero. Global capital markets are awakening to new net-zero opportunities. So where do Canada, British Columbia and Vancouver fit in this transition?

During this session (which features our George Benson, Manager of Economic Transformation), we’ll do a deep dive into British Columbia’s transition readiness. Topics include:

  • Notable tensions for B.C.’s net-zero transition.
  • How global transition can increase B.C.’s competitiveness.
  • Which sectors are transition-ready, and which are transition-vulnerable.
  • How the low-carbon transition will affect workers, communities and Indigenous Peoples.

Leveraging the Carbon Handprint to Grow Your Business | March 31, 2022 | 10:00AM

This hybrid session presents “Carbon Handprint”, a new and innovative climate impact indicator. In contrast to measuring carbon footprint, which refers to the negative environmental impact caused by greenhouse gas emissions throughout the lifecycle of a product or process, Carbon Handprint refers to the positive environmental impact of a product or process throughout its lifecycle. The upshot: Carbon Handprint can help companies develop products and services that allow customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

During this session, Carbon Handprint will be explained using concrete and practical examples – for example, our Bryan Buggey, Director of Economic Transformation and Climate Action, will share how the Carbon Handprint can be leveraged by the business community to further their decarbonization efforts. The session will conclude with the launch of a competition for the first International Carbon Handprint Award.
