The Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) is excited to announce that Bryan Buggey, Director Strategic Initiatives and Sector Development has been invited to present at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) 2015 Annual Conference October 4-7, 2015.

IEDC is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization serving economic developers and over 1,000 economic development professionals are expected to participate in this year’s event. In fact, it’s the largest international gathering of economic development professionals in the world. Focusing on today’s key economic development issues, four key themes were identified: infrastructure development and public financing; building effective economic development organizations and affiliates; encouraging a robust private sector; and relationships and communication.

As Vancouver’s green economy has recently proven its ability to transcend the resource bust, the VEC will share data, strategies, and successes stories related to how Vancouver has grown a robust and sustainable economy. Growing the green economy is central to Vancouver’s vision to be the Greenest City in the World by 2020, and become 100% Renewable Energy powered by 2050. These long-term goals have offered a unique economic opportunity that the VEC has been well placed to take advantage of and execute on. Bryan will share how the VEC strategically works to position Vancouver as a global centre for innovative, creative and sustainable businesses, and why Vancouver is experiencing the highest growth of any city in Canada.
