VANCOUVER, Jan. 06 CSRwire
Historic discussions just unfolded at the COP21 climate talks in Paris and now GLOBE 2016 organizers are preparing for an iconic conference that will harness the business innovation needed to reach COP21 targets. Solutions-minded business people will mobilize around the transition to a low-carbon economy at GLOBE 2016, which brings together nearly two thousand business and government leaders from more than 50 countries to network, collaborate and advance global business and sustainability agendas. This year, the conference theme is Business Innovation for the Planet and it is taking place March 2-4, 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. The GLOBE 2016 Innovation Expo is an international platform for connecting public and private sector buyers from across the globe with clean tech solutions and investment opportunities.
Vancouver has been ranked as one of the most livable cities, with a climate strategy to be the greenest city in the world by 2020, and 100 percent renewable before 2050. The Vancouver Economic Commission and the City of Vancouver demonstrate unwavering commitment to ambitious, coordinated climate action and invite the world to GLOBE 2016 as a key opportunity on the ‘Road from Paris’.
“Vancouver’s economic growth is leading Canada as we are successfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and our greenest city action plan has had interest from throughout the world,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “Vancouver’s leadership at COP21 helped to further inspire a series of important global conversations about a race to the top for renewable energy solutions, and the GLOBE 2016 Conference represents an exciting next step as the world rises to the challenges and economic opportunities that result from climate change.”
“Vancouver played a prominent role during the climate talks in Paris and is consistently ranked among the top cities in the world for its leading-edge thinking around sustainability,” said Ian McKay, CEO of the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC), a leading partner at the GLOBE 2016 Innovation Expo. “As the economic development agency for the City of Vancouver, the VEC knows there is a strong and clear business case for climate action and accelerating green business innovations. The global race for talent and capital to solve environmental challenges is on, and there is now an unprecedented market opportunity to act quickly and creatively to win that race.”
“It was an honour to be at COP 21, and speak alongside Mayor Gregor Robertson at The Cities Solutions Platform, an initiative of C40 Cities Network, CLEAN and International Cleantech Network (ICN), to inspire cities around the world to work on climate solutions,” said Mike Gerbis, Chief Executive Officer of GLOBE Series. “The climate conversation is now moving from agreement to action. GLOBE 2016 is an opportunity for key players to figure out how and where to do it.”
GLOBE 2016 will address carbon innovation and technology transfer, climate action mechanisms and policy, corporate investment, sub-national climate leadership, and public-private partnerships, all geared towards seizing carbon-action opportunities, while the Innovation Expo will showcase climate change solutions and low-carbon generating/emitting technologies.
“The energy is building around GLOBE 2016 as the next stop after the climate talks in Paris. We have an excellent lineup of top-notch globally recognized thinkers and environmental business experts,” said Nancy Wright, GLOBE Series Chief Operating Officer.“
The world-class GLOBE 2016 Innovation Expo will focus on solutions that help address climate change and showcase technologies and services that foster our ability to transform to a low-carbon economy and curb dependence on fossil fuels, including power generation, smart grid, energy and natural resource efficiency, alternative fuels, advanced materials and transportation, carbon capture and storage, and greenhouse gas management.
Innovation will take centre stage in the Expo: the PowerHaus Pavilion will showcase pre-commercial ventures, the Innovation Hub will preview tech innovation presentations and Clean Tech ChallengePitch Forum will feature on-site pitches to investors by clean tech innovators (similar to the Dragon’s Den), all complementing more than a dozen International Pavilions. An emphasis on Global Trade and Exports will connect the economies of Canada, the United States, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
