The Finnish Innovation Fund SITRA has been selected as the winner of the public-sector category of The Circulars Awards, held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. With the help of the future-oriented fund, Finland is now offering new ways of thinking and carrying out practical circular economy experiments, from which the world could learn. Learn more.
 
Please join the Vancouver Economic Commission to hear about the advances that the City of Helsinki and the country of Finland have made in moving towards a carbon-neutral circular economy. Learn from senior experts of SITRA on how the country and its capital city have become global leaders in the race to mitigate climate change impacts by proposing to transform the Finnish economy and Nordic lifestyle to one of sustainable well-being. This session will feature topics such as creating a carbon-neutral society, the circular economy and industrial symbiosis.

About Mari Panstar | Director, Carbon-Neutral Circular Economy
Mari Pantsar leads the Carbon-neutral Circular Economy strategy for Sitra and is responsible for ensuring that all activities related to it direct Finland towards a more ecologically sustainable and competitive society. Mari has about 20 years’ experience of managerial tasks in the development of cleantech and circular economy business in the private and public sector and sits on several companies’ boards. She has a doctorate in philosophy and holds the title of docent at the University of Helsinki and at Lappeenranta University of Technology.

 
About Kari Herlevi| Project Director, Circular Economy
Kari Herlevi is the project director in Sitra’s Circular economy focus area and a multi-skilled circular economy expert. Kari led the preparation of the globally first national road map for Finland and was in charge of the execution of World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) in 2017 which brought together 1,700 leaders and decision makers in the circular economy from 100 countries to Helsinki. Currently, Kari is leading the execution of the circular economy roadmap with his team. Previously, Kari led the Green Growth programme at Tekes, which was associated with the circular economy and had a financing volume of more than 100 million euros.

 
About Jukka Noponen | Senior Advisor
Jukka Noponen is a visionary and doer that has helped Finland make the leap towards a resource-wise and carbon-neutral society. Jukka was previously a director at Sitra and responsible for ecological sustainability, but is now retired and an active promoter of sustainable development in international contexts. Jukka has decades of experience in international environmental consulting and urban planning and knows how Finland’s cleantech expertise and brand were created and what made it possible. As a former Director at Sitra, he led the efforts to make the built environment more energy efficient and cities and towns more resource-wise, and introduced industrial symbioses to Finland.
